Listening to a podcast the other day the idea that some people’s lives are so dull and repetitive that it would be inconceivable that “God” would give you this life.
Examples used were Hotel lobby staff, greeting and repeating the same lines to each guest as if they were a robot.
The question was, is that person even real? Do they even exist?
I don’t really agree that someone working that role would have such a rote, boring life, but it made me think - Am I an NPC.
If I was, would I even be able to figure out if I wasn’t.
If I’m an NPC, then who are the main characters and what are they doing?
It reminded me of this exact concept from the movie Free Guy and conversations with old work mates about living in a computer simulation.
My argument for the computer simulation was that of Naval Ravikant, “If you’re so smart, why don’t you have everything you want”.
If you knew you were in a simulation, why do you keep going to work, why do you pay bills and abide by the law? If you knew nothing was real, why play by the rules.
